چکیده

We present an experimental study of the longitudinal electron-spin relaxation of ensembles of negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV–) centers in diamond. The measurements were performed with samples having different NV– concentrations and at different temperatures and magnetic fields. We found that the relaxation rate T–1 1 increases when transition frequencies in NV – centers with different orientations become degenerate and interpret this as cross-relaxation caused by dipole-dipole interaction.

Detection of nanoscale electron spin resonance spectra demonstrated using nitrogen-vacancy centre probes in diamond

Electron spin resonance (ESR) describes a suite of techniques for characterizing electronic systems with applications in physics, chemistry, and biology. However, the requirement for large electron spin ensembles in conventional ESR techniques limits their spatial resolution. Here we present a method for measuring ESR spectra of nanoscale electronic environments by measuring the longitudinal re...

Temperature- and magnetic-field-dependent longitudinal spin relaxation in nitrogen-vacancy ensembles in diamond.

We present an experimental study of the longitudinal electron-spin relaxation time (T1) of negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) ensembles in diamond. T1 was studied as a function of temperature from 5 to 475 K and magnetic field from 0 to 630 G for several samples with various NV and nitrogen concentrations. Our studies reveal three processes responsible for T1 relaxation. Above room temper...

Solid-state electronic spin coherence time approaching one second.

Solid-state spin systems such as nitrogen-vacancy colour centres in diamond are promising for applications of quantum information, sensing and metrology. However, a key challenge for such solid-state systems is to realize a spin coherence time that is much longer than the time for quantum spin manipulation protocols. Here we demonstrate an improvement of more than two orders of magnitude in the...

Vibrational and electronic dynamics of nitrogen--vacancy centres in diamond revealed by two-dimensional ultrafast spectroscopy

The optical and material properties of negatively charged nitrogen–vacancy (NV) centres in diamond make them attractive for applications ranging from quantum information to electromagnetic sensing. These properties are strongly dependent on the vibrational manifold associated with the centre, which determines phenomena associated with decoherence, relaxation and spin–orbit coupling. Despite its...

High-sensitivity magnetometry based on quantum beats in diamond nitrogen-vacancy centers.

We demonstrate an absolute magnetometer based on quantum beats in the ground state of nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond. We show that, by eliminating the dependence of spin evolution on the zero-field splitting D, the magnetometer is immune to temperature fluctuation and strain inhomogeneity. We apply this technique to measure low-frequency magnetic field noise by using a single nitrogen-vaca...
